About Shwedagon Pagoda
The Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, is a Buddhist holy site located on the holy mountain beside Inya Lake in Yangon, Myanmar. It is said that it was built in 585 BC to collect the eight hairs of the Buddha Sakyamuni. There are also other relics of the Buddha enshrined in the pagoda. The existing pagoda is about 99 meters high and its body is covered with gold. The golden umbrella on the top of the tower is hung with gold and silver bells and is inlaid with a large number of diamonds and gems. Together with Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Indonesia, it is known as the "three major monuments in Southeast Asia" and is also the national symbol of Myanmar.
