About Lion's Den Temple
The Lion's Nest Temple is located on the Zhulin Ridge (Shizi Ridge) in the Wutai Mountain Scenic Area, Yantou Township, Fanzhi County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. It was first built in the 14th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1586) by fifty-three people including Seng Zhiguang, and was completed in the 32nd year of Wanli (1604). The temple was originally Shifang Pure Land Temple and was one of the famous temples in Mount Wutai. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty once named it "Dahuguo Wenshu Temple". Now the main building has been destroyed, and only the Ten Thousand Buddhas Glazed Pagoda remains. The pagoda is an octagonal thirteen-story glazed pagoda with dense eaves, about 31.55 meters high. It was built between the 27th and 32nd years of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1599-1604). The outer wall of the tower is inlaid with yellow, green and blue colored glaze components.
