About Xuancheng Longquan Cave
Xuancheng Longquan Cave is a scenic area located at the foot of Bishan Mountain, 4 kilometers east of Shuidong Town in Xuancheng City, Anhui Province. Also known as Yaotou Cave, it features a karst cave landscape formed approximately 3 million years ago. Records of visits to the cave date back to the Southern Song Dynasty; the cave walls bear a poem inscribed by Xu Shihong in the first year of Kaiqing (1259). The cave entrance was blocked during the mid‑Qing Dynasty, but it was rediscovered in 1978 while searching for water. It officially opened to the public in 1982. The cave is divided into seven levels and contains 20 large halls and more than 200 natural formations, including stalactites and stalagmites—numerous cave wonders that are densely distributed throughout the cave, maintaining a constant temperature of 18°C year-round.
