About Dali Jianchuan Shibao Mountain
Shibao Mountain is located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Jianchuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a total area of 25 square kilometers and belonging to the Laojunshan Range. It is named for its distinctive red sandstone Danxia landform, where the rocks exhibit turtle-back–shaped cracks and diverse shapes. The scenic area is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and one of the first 44 key scenic areas nationwide announced by the State Council. Shibao Mountain is renowned for its cave temples and cliffside statues; the Shikong Mountain Caves were carved during the Nanzhao and Dali periods and are known as “Dunhuang of Southwest China.” In 1961, they were designated as one of the first batch of national key cultural heritage protection units.
