About Crescent Lake

Crescent Lake is located in Qinhuai District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It faces the Ming City Wall to the west and the Purple Mountain to the east. It is named because the lake surface resembles a crescent moon. It is the remnant of the ancient moat (the eastern section of the southeast moat). In March 1996, the Baixia District Government built Crescent Lake Park and it was completed in September 1998. From December 2016 to December 2017, a comprehensive improvement of the water environment was implemented with a total investment of approximately 175 million yuan. The eight-character method of "demolition, interception, clearing, repair, diversion, measurement, management, and landscaping" was adopted to remove 460,000 cubic meters of sediment and build an "underwater forest" and an ecological island in the middle of the lake.
