About Kurdenin
Kurdening Scenic Area is located in Gongliu County, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. What makes Kurdening Scenic Area unique is that while most mountain valleys typically follow the natural contours of the mountains, this wide valley runs parallel to the snow-capped peaks. “Kurdening” literally means “wide valley.” Kurdening Scenic Area is a north–south-oriented, wide valley stretching about 14 kilometers in length, with a maximum width of 1 kilometer, and an average elevation of 1,500 meters at its base. In 1984, Kurdening Scenic Area was designated as the Xueling Spruce Nature Reserve of the autonomous region. As of December 2020, the reserve was home to more than 1,000 species of higher plants, 146 species of terrestrial vertebrates, and 196 species of insects.
