About Guozigou Scenic Area
Guzi Gou is also known as “Talqida Ba’an,” a famous canyon route that runs northward to Sairimu Lake and southward into the Yili Valley, with a total length of 28 kilometers. In 1219, during Genghis Khan’s western expedition, he ordered his second son, Chagatai, to lead troops in carving out roads through the rock and constructing bridges from wood, thus creating a paved path. Historically, this gorge served as the throat of the Northern New Route of the Silk Road, connecting China to Central Asia and Europe, and was known as the “Iron Pass.” Today, it lies along National Highway 312 (a first-class section of the Uy Highway).
