About Lanzhou Waterwheel Garden Scenic Area
Lanzhou Waterwheel Garden is located on the western section of Binhe Road in the eastern part of Qilihe District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. It borders Zhongshan Bridge to the east and the Mother Yellow River Sculpture to the west, and is one of the scenic spots with distinctive Lanzhou characteristics along the 100-li Yellow River scenic route. The garden was established in 1994, constructed by the Lanzhou Municipal Tourism Bureau and crafted by Gao Qirong, a first-class carpenter from Baiyin City. The double-wheeled waterwheel in the garden has a spoke diameter of 16.5 meters. The Lanzhou waterwheel originated during the Ming Dynasty, improved by Jinshi Duan Xu based on southern cylindrical waterwheels, and was once widely used for irrigation in farmland along both banks of the Yellow River, earning Lanzhou the reputation as the “City of Waterwheels.
