About Hekou Ancient Town

The Hekou Ancient Town Scenic Area is located on the northern bank of the Yellow River in Xigu District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. Situated at the confluence of the Zhuanglang River, the Xian Shui River, and the Yellow River, it serves as a crucial intersection between the ancient Silk Road and the Tang–Tibetan Ancient Road, earning the reputation of being “the western gateway to Jin City.” As a national 4A-level tourist attraction, the scenic area focuses on Yellow River culture, Silk Road relics, and intangible cultural heritage folk traditions, preserving 37 ancient residential courtyards from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as historical buildings such as the former site of Gansu’s first customs office. Intangible cultural heritage sites like the Military Nuo Dance and the Hekou Silk Lanterns are actively passed down here in their original form.
