About Shimen

Shimen is located within the Maiji Mountain Scenic Area in Maiji District, Tianshui City, Gansu Province. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, situated 15 kilometers from the Maiji Mountain Caves, and lies in the watershed area between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, at an elevation of over 2,000 meters. The scenic area is renowned for its “dark green mountains stretching across the landscape, with several peaks emerging from the mortal world,” and it combines the majestic, rugged, and perilous features of Mount Huangshan, earning it the reputation of “Little Huangshan.” Today, it still boasts 24 ancient Taoist temples dating back to the Song Dynasty, arranged in a Taiji Eight Trigrams pattern—making it a sacred site of Taoism in Northwest China.
