About Tiger Leaping Gorge

Shanghutiao Gorge is located at the junction of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province and Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is an AAAA-level tourist attraction and the core area of Tiger Leaping Gorge leisure and sightseeing. It is also one of the highlights of the 3-day trip to Meili Snow Mountain in Shangri-La. The canyon is formed by the Jinsha River cutting through the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain, and is divided into upper, middle and lower sections. The narrowest point of the river is only more than 20 meters wide, and the Tiger Leaping Stone in the middle of the river is about 13 meters high. According to legend, the tiger once used this stone to jump over the gorge and got its name. When this section of the Jinsha River flows into the canyon, it forms rapid water flow due to sudden changes in terrain.
