About Bodhidharma Cave

Bodhidharma Cave is located more than ten meters below the top of the middle peak of Wuru Peak behind Chuzu Temple in Dengfeng County, Henan Province. It is about 7 meters deep and more than 3 meters high and wide. Bodhidharma Cave is a natural stone cave. Bodhidharma, the "first ancestor of Zen Buddhism," once faced the wall in this cave for nine years, so it is called "Dharma Cave" or "Dharma Face the Wall Cave". There are three stone statues inside. Outside the cave, there are stone squares and multi-pass inscriptions from the Ming Dynasty. Above the cave is a huge white jade seated Bodhidharma statue on the top of the five-breasted peak. Bodhidharma once faced the wall here for nine years, and later formed the "Dharma Face the Wall Shadow Stone". However, some cultural relics were destroyed when the Shaolin Temple was burned.
