About Seven-Star Stones
The Seven Star Stone is located in the southeastern site of the Seventy-two Corridors of the Temple of Heaven. It consists of seven huge stones arranged according to the orientation of the Big Dipper and a small stone in the northeast corner, totaling eight stones. It was established during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. According to legend, a Taoist priest suggested that a stone should be built to protect the imperial power. The stone is engraved with a mountain pattern to symbolize the seven peaks of Mount Tai. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, a stone was added to the northeast, which meant not forgetting the ancestral home and emphasizing the Chinese family. Others believe that the eighth stone corresponds to the auxiliary star of the Kaiyang star in the Big Dipper, which reflects the ancient people's concept of astrological observation.
