About Wenmiao

Wuwei Confucian Temple is located at No. 172 Chongwen Street, Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province. It was first built in the second year of Ming Zhengtong (1437) and completed in the fourth year of Ming Zhengtong (1439). It was presided over by Xu Xi, the right minister of the Ministry of War. The existing building covers an area of 30,096 square meters. The building complex consists of three groups of courtyards: Wenchang Palace, Confucian Temple and Liangzhou Prefecture Confucian College, forming a "three-legged" pattern integrating temples and schools. It retains the wooden buildings from the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China. It has strong local Hexi characteristics in terms of Dougong and beam joints. It is an important example for studying the inner relationship between Hexi traditional architecture, Confucian culture and Wenchang culture.
