About Fountain View
Guanshuifa is located at the southern end of Yuanyingguan at the ruins of the Western Tower of Yuanmingyuan. It was a viewing platform built by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty specifically for viewing the fountain landscape of Dashuifa. It was completed in the 24th year of Qianlong's reign (1759). The core building is the platform on which the emperor's throne is placed. There are original bronze cranes supporting the pergola on the left and right sides of the throne. There are five stone sculpture screens behind the throne, engraved with Western military flags, armor, swords, guns and other patterns. There are Baroque stone doors on both sides. The landscape was burned and destroyed by the British and French forces in the 10th year of Xianfeng's reign (1860), but the main stone carvings still exist.
