About Water Reservior for Fountains
The water storage building is an auxiliary building of the Haiyan Hall in the Western Tower Scenic Area of Yuanmingyuan in the Qing Dynasty. It is designed to provide water sources for the nearby fountain groups such as Xieqiqu, Haiyantang and Dashuifa. The overall building is in the shape of an I, with a large reservoir on the top. The bottom and four walls of the pond are covered with tin sheets for waterproofing, so it is commonly known as the "Tin Sea". The east and west sides of the building appear to be two floors, but are actually waterwheel operation rooms. The building was burned down by the British and French forces in 1860, but the main structure was preserved for a time and was gradually demolished in the 1930s.
