About Sea and Mountains Open Your Mind

Haiyue Kaijin is the most luxurious group of buildings among all the pavilions in the Old Summer Palace. It was built in 1747 (the twelfth year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty) and is located on the island in the center of the West Lake in Changchun Garden. The base of the platform is circular, nearly a hundred meters in diameter, with two floors, surrounded by white marble railings. The main building is a three-story pavilion with archways on all sides and side halls, archways and other buildings on the outside. Surrounded by water, with docks in the east, west, north and south, it was a good place for the Qing emperors to climb high and have a distant view, which contains the meaning of seeking immortality. In 1860, the Old Summer Palace was saved from being burned when the British and French forces burned it, but it was destroyed by war around 1900.
