About East Gate
Dongzhai Gate is a common azimuth-named building in ancient Chinese villages and military defense systems. The existing ruins are distributed in Linfeng Village in Henan, Liangmen Town in Puyang, and Dabu Village in Shantou. As an important part of the village wall defense system, its construction mostly uses rammed earth or stone structures. Some of the village gates are equipped with lookouts and attics, which have both military defense and traffic control functions. The iron surface of the Dongzhai Gate of Linfeng Village retains the inscription "The First Year of Tongzhi", confirming its construction background in 1862; the plaque on the Dongzhai Gate of Dabu Village "Smoke Light Condensing Purple" shows the artistic characteristics of Qing Dynasty stone carvings.
