About The former residence of Rock
Locke's former residence is the residence of the Austrian-American scholar Joseph Locke in Xuesong Village, Yuhu, Lijiang, Yunnan. The village is called "Wuluken" in Naxi, which means a village at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. In 1922, Locke entered Lijiang as an explorer for the American National Geographic Magazine. He established the expedition headquarters here and stayed there for 27 years. During this period, he carried out plant specimen collection, folk photography and translation of Dongba scriptures, and completed works such as "The Ancient Kingdom of Naxi in Southwest China" and "The Naxi English Encyclopedia". The former residence has been restored into a typical Naxi courtyard house and is now a provincial cultural relic protection unit.
