About longevity stone
The longevity stone is a natural boulder in the Longchi Scenic Area of Baimajian, Suzhou. It is located next to the ancient royal road beside the Longchi in the scenic area. It is named after its shape like a kind old man and is regarded by the locals as a symbol of good luck. This stone, together with Qianchixue, Qianlong Palace ruins and other historical relics, form the cultural context of the scenic spot. Folklore records that in ancient times, villager Xu Xing was moved by his filial piety to his neighbors. After his ninety-nine-year-old life, he transformed into this stone. It was first called "Xu Xing Stone", but was later renamed because of its longevity. As a carrier of the integration of natural landscape and humanistic narrative, the stone reflects the connection between traditional filial piety culture and regional folk customs.
