About Hagia Sophia/Aya Sofya/Saint Sophia
Hagia Sophia is the main church of the Byzantine Empire. It is located in Istanbul, Turkey. It has a history of nearly 1,500 years. It is famous for its huge dome. It is a representative of Byzantine architecture, the central church of the Orthodox Church, and a monument to the heyday of the Byzantine Empire. Hagia Sophia is centralized, 77.0 meters long from east to west and 71.0 meters long from north to south. When it was first built, the dome was 54.8 meters above the ground. It is the third church built by the order of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in 532 AD. With the strong national support of Byzantium, it was designed by the physicist Isidore of Miletus and the mathematician Antimus of Tralles, and was completed in 537 AD. After 1453, it was occupied by the Turks and converted into a mosque.
