About The Underground City
The Beijing Civil Air Defense Historical and Cultural Museum is a cultural venue located in Tongle Hutong, Beijing. Its predecessor was the "Beijing Underground City", an early tunnel type civil air defense project that was built in 1969 and took ten years to complete. The project was closed in 2008. Under the joint promotion of the Beijing Municipal National Defense Mobilization Office and the Dongcheng District Government, it was reopened and transformed into the Beijing Civil Air Defense Historical and Cultural Museum on May 12, 2026. It was also awarded the title of "Beijing National Defense Mobilization Propaganda Base". The venue is guided by the Beijing Municipal National Defense Mobilization Office and the Dongcheng District Government, and is jointly sponsored by the Dongcheng District National Mobilization Office, Qianmen Street, and Beijing Tianjie Group Co., Ltd.
