About Tanxian Stone Town

Tanxian Stone City is located on Tanxian Ridge in the west of Nanbei Lake Scenic Area in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province, with an altitude of 96.7 meters. It is located at the junction of Haiyan and Haining. It was an important transportation route from Haiyan County to Hangzhou in ancient times. The existing city wall was rebuilt in 1989. It is 72.4 meters long from north to south, 41.3 meters wide from east to west, and 5.7 meters high. The city wall is hollow and equipped with a city tower, a statue of General Xu Xingjian and a general-pointing platform. Because of its compact shape, Aying (Qian Xingcun) once called it "the best small town in the world" in 1932. Its terrain is dangerous, with Nanmu Mountain and Beimu Mountain on both sides, and a valley to the east, with only one trail leading through.
