About Tantan Dang
Tantan is one of the forty scenes of the Old Summer Palace in the Qing Dynasty. It is located on the west bank of Houhu Lake. It was built in the late Kangxi years and was originally named "Goldfish Pond". It was built after the "Yuquan Fish Leaping" landscape of West Lake in Hangzhou. The scene covers an area of 1,050 square meters and is composed of two areas: the southern area has Suxintang as the core for the emperor and empress to eat, and a half-acre garden is set up as a summer dormitory; the northern area has the largest fish viewing pond in the Old Summer Palace, with a light, wind and moon pavilion and a square pavilion in the pond. The Taihu stone fish nest around the pond is convenient for breeding in winter. The theme of the landscape is to dig a pond to watch fish. Thousands of golden scales were raised around the pond.
