About Grand Duke Kuoran
Kuoran Grand Duke, also known as Shuanghezhai, is one of the forty scenes of the Old Summer Palace in the Qing Dynasty and is a royal garden site. This scene is located in the northwest corner of Fuhai, covering an area of 5 hectares. It is modeled after Wuxi Huishan Jichang Garden. The main building is adjacent to the big pond in the north. It includes Shuanghezhai, Guiyue Bridge, Qiaoxiju and other scenic spots. It is famous for its stacked stone art. The existing ruins include stacked stone caves and stone carvings of Qianlong's Eight Scenes Poems. The landscape was built in the late Kangxi period and was originally named Shenliu Reading Hall. Shuanghezhai was added in 1726 (the fourth year of the Yongzheng reign) and named Kuoran Grand Duke in 1739 (the fourth year of the Qianlong reign).
