About square appearance
The square appearance is a European-style building built in the 24th year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1759). It is located in the Western-style Building Scenic Area of Yuanmingyuan. It was designed and guided by missionaries Lang Shining, Jiang Youren and others, and built by Chinese craftsmen. The building adopts Baroque style and Le Nôtre garden style. The main body is a three-bay Western-style building. The exterior walls are paved with marble veneers with engraved patterns. The roof is a traditional Chinese double-eaves hip roof, covered with blue and green glazed tiles. The bronze door and semi-circular stone steps connect the upper and lower floors. There is a Western-style octagonal pavilion on the southwest side, with landscapes such as Xianfa Mountain and Yuanyingguan nearby.
