About Longshou Pass
Longshou Pass (formerly known as Longkou City) is a military fortress built by King Piroge of Nanzhao in the 26th year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty (738) at the narrowest point between Yunnong Peak of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. The name Longkou City was first seen in Yuan Zi's "Yunnan Chronicle" in the 13th year of Zhenyuan of the Tang Dynasty (797). It may be the first city built by Nanzhao in Bazi, Dali. This pass and Longwei Pass together constitute the defense system of Nanzhao Kingdom. It is located at the northern end of Erhai Lake in Cangshan Mountain, with a plane distance of only 650 meters. The existing ruins include the remaining city walls, watchtowers from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the remains of the north gate passage of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. The north city wall is 600 meters long, and the south city wall is 900 meters long.
