About Site of former French post office
The former site of the French Post Office is located at No. 19 Dongjiaomin Lane, Dongcheng District, Beijing. It was rebuilt into the French Post Office in the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1901). The main building of the former site of the French Post Office is a brick and wood structure, facing north and south, with a square shape. It is generally a single-story building, about 6 meters high, and about 13 meters wide on the east and west sides. The former site of the French Post Office is one of the earliest modern consulate buildings built by great powers in the capital. It incorporates many eclectic styles of Western architectural features under the Chinese architectural framework, and provides a physical reference for studying the architectural characteristics of the consulate district.
