About Theater
The theater is a performance building for traditional Chinese opera, also known as the stage. It is mainly divided into palace theaters, temple theaters and other categories. Its history can be traced back to the original performance venues such as squares, halls, and terraces. Later, it gradually developed into various forms such as temple music halls, tile market Goulan, restaurants and teahouses. In the late Qing Dynasty, influenced by Western theaters, the picture-frame theater appeared. The earliest extant Jin Dynasty theater is the Erlang Temple stage in Wangbao Village, Gaoping, Shanxi. The inscription on the stone slab on its foundation records that it was built in the 23rd year of Dading in the Jin Dynasty (1183). Most of the theaters are located in places where people gather, with an open layout on three sides.
