About Shitouzhai Scenic Area

Shitouzhai Scenic Area is located in Biandan Mountain, Zhenning Buyi and Miao Autonomous County, Anshun City, Guizhou Province, about 6 kilometers south of Huangguoshu Waterfall. It has 200 households and about 1,000 people. It is a traditional village dominated by the Buyi people with the surname Wu. It was founded in the Ming Dynasty, about 600 years ago. The village is named after its houses, roads and walls built entirely of stone. It is known as the "Kingdom of Stone" and is called "Banbosen" in Buyi language. The wooden and stone structure buildings in the village are built close to the mountains and rivers. The stone walls are made of block stones and shale. The roof foundation is about 2 meters high. They are both fireproof and climate adaptable. The stone steps and benches are integrated with the natural environment, forming a unique and patchwork landscape.
