About abbot's courtyard
The Abbot's Courtyard is an open area on East Road of the Beijing Art Museum (the museum is located at Wanshou Temple). It was originally one of the important buildings in the monks' living area on Wanshou Temple East Road in the Qing Dynasty. Before the renovation, it was used as a courtyard for a long time. After vacating and repairing, the Abbot's Courtyard will be opened to the public for the first time on September 16, 2022 with the reopening of the Beijing Art Museum. Since then, the courtyard has been used as a furniture museum to exhibit "The Beautiful Wood in the Clouds: Traditional Chinese Furniture Exhibition", which houses dozens of furniture exhibits from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China.
