About ancient bridge
Ancient bridges are the collective name for ancient Chinese bridge buildings. According to their core structures, they are divided into four categories: beam bridges, arch bridges, cable bridges and pontoon bridges. Beam bridges use piers to support the flat deck, such as the Anping Bridge in the Song Dynasty; arch bridges use single-hole open-shoulder stone arch technology, and the Zhaozhou Bridge in the Sui Dynasty is a typical example. The wooden arcade bridge is a subdivision of the arch bridge. It is characterized by a wooden arch structure with braided beams connected by mortise and tenon joints. Taishun Beijian Bridge is a representative example. Its construction techniques are included in the United Nations Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Some bridges adopt innovative designs.
