About Xiaoyingzhou

Xiaoyingzhou is located in the middle of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, covering an area of 60,000 square meters. Xiaoyingzhou is an island in the middle of the lake. According to legend, after Su Shi dredged the West Lake, he built three bottle-shaped stone towers in the depths of the lake, named Santan. He also ordered that no water chestnut be planted on the water from Su Di to here to prevent lake mud from silting up. The three pagodas were destroyed in the early Ming Dynasty. In the 35th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, Qiantang County magistrate Nie Xintang used mud as a bank to form a life-release pond at the original three pagodas. In the 39th year of Wanli, Qiantang County magistrate Yang Wanli built an outer embankment outside the life-release pond. During the Tianqi period, three bottle-shaped stone pagodas were also rebuilt in the south of the pond.
