About winter room
The Shengdong Room is a winter scene in the four-season landscape of Qichun Garden. It was built during the Qianlong period and was originally called "Mingshan Hall". It was renamed "The Shengdong Room" after expansion and renovation during the Jiaqing period. Located in Chunze Zhainan, it covers an area of 8,000 square meters. There are seven rooms in the main hall, three rooms in the front and five rooms in the back. There is a stage in the southwest of the west room of the middle indoor hall. The stage is 4.45 meters high and about 25 square meters. It is the main place for the Empress Dowager to play in Qichun Garden. In case of rain or bad weather, the Empress Dowager will go to the stage in the winter room to watch plays. The East and West Tao Halls are connected to the main hall, where the Empress Dowager admires lotus flowers.
