About Golden Purple Gate

Jinzi Gate (also known as Jinzi Gate) is an ancient city gate directly south of Chongqing Old City. It is one of the seventeen gates of the Ming Dynasty's "nine open and eight closed" gates. It is less than 150 meters away from Chuqi Gate. Its name comes from the "gold seal and purple ribbon" symbol of high officials. It was specially designed by Dai Ding, the commander of the Chongqing Guards in the early Ming Dynasty, based on Feng Shui theory. The city gate faces the Yangtze River directly and there is no urn. In the Qing Dynasty, the Chongqing Town General Military Office was established here, adjacent to the government office area. Folks once called it "Jinzimen" because of the legend of the treasury. The city gate has undergone functional evolution: it served as a military and administrative hub in the Qing Dynasty, then changed to a garrison mission in the early Republic of China.
