About Wolong Bridge
Wolong Bridge is located at the mouth of Beizha City, Xitang Town, Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It was built in the 58th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1719). It is a single-hole stone arch bridge with 32 steps on the east slope and 30 steps on the west slope (there are another 9 steps on the south corner of the west slope). The bridge is 4.95 meters wide and 31.46 meters long. It is the tallest bridge in Xitang Town. The bridge body adopts the vertical and parallel masonry technology. The bridge deck is made of a whole stone and is engraved with dragon-shaped reliefs, with the head to the east and the tail to the west, which are still clearly visible. The bridge was formerly a wooden bridge. It was later rebuilt by Zhu Guangyuan, a bamboo craftsman who spent ten years raising funds for reconstruction. He died of illness before the project was completed.
