About Putuo Zongcheng Temple

Putuo Zongcheng Temple, also known as the "Little Potala Palace", is a Buddhist temple built after Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty to imitate the Potala Palace in Tibet in order to celebrate his 60th birthday and the 80th birthday of Empress Dowager Chongqing. Located in Shizigou Village, Shizigou Town, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province, it is the largest building complex among the Eight Wai Temples in Chengde. It was built in the 36th year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1771). Putuo Zongcheng Temple covers an area of 220,000 square meters. Its main building, Dahongtai, is located on the top of the mountain, with a height of 43 meters. The main hall is the Wanfa Guiyi Hall in the center of the platform. The top of the hall is higher than the group of buildings. The top of the hall is covered with gilded fish-scale copper tiles.
