About Return of the sunset
The Return of the Sunset is a characteristic landscape at the Colorful Fairyland Observation Deck of the Colorful Danxia Tourist Scenic Area in Nantai Village, Nijiaying Township, Linze County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. There is a syncline fold developed here. The rock layer was formed in lake sediments 145-100 million years ago. It was then compressed and deformed during the crustal movement about 80 million years ago, and the two wings formed oblique peaks. Viewed from a high altitude or from a distance, the colorful hills here resemble the sails of a ship sailing home under the setting sun, hence its name. The middle of the mountain is concave, like two huge sails standing against the wind. Under different lighting conditions, the color and shape of the mountain will present different visual effects.
