About Chaotianmen Dock
Chaotianmen Wharf is located at the intersection of the Jialing River and the Yangtze River in the northeast of Chongqing. It is the largest water wharf in Chongqing. It was first built in 314 BC. It was originally one of the ancient city gates of Chongqing. After expansion in the Ming Dynasty, it was named "Ancient Chongqing Xiongguan". It was named after receiving an imperial edict during the Southern Song Dynasty. After the opening of Chongqing as a port in 1891, a customs house was established, and the base of the city gate now exists. There is now Chaotianmen Square, which is the main viewing place for the intersection of the two rivers. The wharf has been a water transport hub in Chongqing since ancient times. After the city gate was demolished in 1927, it gradually developed into a modern wharf.
