About Madian
The Madian is an inn in the ancient transportation system that provided food and accommodation services for caravans. Its core functions include receiving business travelers and caring for horses and livestock. Its definition includes three core elements: the service object is limited to caravans engaged in long-distance transportation, the business content covers personnel food and accommodation and livestock care, and the functional positioning is a transportation supply node. This business format can be traced back to the prosperous stage of the Tea Horse Road trade network in the Tang and Song Dynasties. The mutual trade policy of tea horses in the Tang Dynasty gave birth to the professional horse racing business format. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795), the number of horse racing stores along the Southwest Tea Horse Ancient Road reached its peak.
