About DONGLIN MONASTERY 76

Donglin Temple (English name: DONGLIN MONASTERY) is the birthplace of the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism (also known as the Lotus Sect). It is located at the northwest foot of Lushan Mountain in Lianxi District, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is 16 kilometers from Jiujiang City to the north and 5 kilometers from Guling Street in Lushan Mountain to the east, covering an area of 300 acres. Because it is located to the east of Xilin Temple, it is named Donglin Temple. It is a national key Buddhist temple in the Han area, a nationally famous Buddhist ashram, and one of the three major international exchange ashrams in Jiangxi Province. As of June 2024, Donglin Temple has two monasteries, namely Donglin Temple Ancestral Court and Donglin Temple Pure Land Garden (Big Buddha). Donglin Temple was built in 384 by Huiyuan, a famous monk in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
