About Dong Family Courtyard
The Dong Family Courtyard is located at No. 19 Zhushi Street, Bajie Street, Yangliuqing Town, Xiqing District, Tianjin. It covers an area of about 1,200 square meters and a construction area of about 686 square meters. It was built by Dong Zhaorong in the third year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1877). The Dong family courtyard building adopts an axis-symmetrical layout, with five rooms, two entrances and two roads, a small hard-mounted courtyard building. A central axis divides the entire courtyard into east and west parts (the original central axis had a brick-carved pendant flower door, which was later destroyed). The main rooms on both sides are through-hall doors, and four convenience doors are opened on the central axis to connect each courtyard. Each courtyard follows a strict hierarchy and adopts different architectural decorations according to the identity of the owner.
