About Jinshi rank

Jinshidi is the rank title of Jinshi in the ancient Chinese imperial examination system, and also refers to the residence and building of Jinshi. The word was first recorded in Song Dynasty literature and has the dual attributes of imperial examination title and architectural entity. In the imperial examination system, the rank of Jinshi represents the admission level in the palace examination: the first and third grades are awarded "Jinshi pass", the second grade is awarded "Jinshi origin", and the third grade is awarded "same background as Jinshi". Most of its buildings are of brick and wood structure, using a frame with piers and raised beams. The layout is mainly a courtyard with multiple entrances, with features such as gatehouses, patios and carved brick walls. Some buildings retain the remains of flagpole stones.
