About Imperial College
Guozijian (jiàn) is the highest official institution of learning and educational management institution established by the ancient Chinese government. In the fourth year of Xianning (278), Emperor Wu of the Jin Dynasty founded Guozixue and set up Guozixi to offer wine. It was called Guozi Temple in the Northern Qi Dynasty. In the third year of Emperor Yang's reign (607) of the Sui Dynasty, Guozixue was renamed Guozijian. During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, Guozixue was under the jurisdiction of Guozixue, Taixue, etc. The Tang Dynasty followed the system of the Sui Dynasty, and appointed a person named Guozixue to be responsible for supervising the academic affairs. He had jurisdiction over Guozixue, Taixue, Four Schools, Legal Studies, Calligraphy, and Arithmetic, and each had a doctorate. The Song Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty had the same system.
