About Altar of the Sun

The Temple of the Sun, also known as the Temple of the Sun, is located at No. 6, Ritan North Road, Chaowai Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It covers an area of 20.62 hectares and was built in the ninth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1530). The Sun Altar is the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshiped the sun (the God of the Ming Dynasty). It consists of the Beitianmen, Jufu Hall, Xitianmen, Shenlu and the altar. The outer wall of the sun altar is round and the platform is square, following the design principle of "round sky and square place".
