About Miaofeng Ancient Road
Miaofeng Ancient Road is an important historical relic in Miaofengshan Town, Mentougou District, Beijing. It was originally the ancient pilgrimage road leading to the Empress Temple of Miaofeng Mountain and carried nearly 500 years of folk belief activities. During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the eunuch An Dehai presided over the reconstruction of this road on the order of the Empress Dowager Cixi. He paved the steps with a width of seven feet with natural stone slabs. The project cost a lot of money. There is a folk legend that "one tael of silver is used for each stone paved". The ancient trail is more than 10 kilometers long and crosses the Yangtze Mountain Natural Scenic Area. It is now a popular hiking route for mountaineers.
