About Nechung Monastery
Naiqiong Temple, whose full name is "Naichung Zayang Forest", is located at the southern foot of Genpei Uzi Mountain in the western suburbs of Lhasa, about 1 km away from Drepung Monastery. It was built in the 7th century. The temple is the main residence of the Dharma protector Baihar in Tibetan Buddhism. Historically, it was the residence of the Kashag government’s proclaiming god and is famous for its witchcraft system. The temple building has a rectangular layout, with a cloister courtyard in the front, and the remaining trunks of the ancient trees where the Baihar pigeons live are preserved in the northwest corner of the main hall. The murals in the temple use the incarnation of Baihar and hell scenes as their themes, integrating elements of Han, Indian and Central Asian art.
