About Ramoche Temple
Ramoche Temple (Tibetan: ར་མོ་ཆེ་དགོན་པ་, English: Ramoche Temple), also known as Jiada Remqi Zulakang, Shangmiyuan, Remqi, is located at No. 49 Remqi Road, Jibenggang Street, Chengguan District, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region, about 500 meters north of Barkhor Street and about 1 km north of the Jokhang Temple, covering an area of 4,000 square meters. According to legend, Princess Wencheng presided over the laying of the foundation stone in the 15th year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (641), and it was completed and consecrated at the same time as the Jokhang Temple. It imitated the style of the Han and Tang Dynasties in the early days. It is the seat of the Upper Secret Academy, the highest institution of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Ramoche Temple faces east and faces the west, with the temple as the center.
