About LeiQiong Global Geopark

China's Leiqiong UNESCO Global Geopark spans Zhanjiang City in Guangdong Province and Haikou City in Hainan Province. It consists of Zhanjiang Park, Haikou Park and Qiongzhou Strait, with a total area of 3,050 square kilometers. It was awarded the title of UNESCO Global Geopark in 2006, and was re-evaluated for the fourth time in 2024 to extend the title until 2028. With the relics of Quaternary volcanic activity as its core, the park has 101 volcanic cones and 7 volcanic eruption sequences, covering lava cones, clastic cones, Maar volcanoes and other types. Among them, Huguangyan Maar Lake preserves 140,000 years of climate sedimentary records and is listed as a benchmark point for global climate change. There are more than 30 lava tunnels distributed in the park, and the basalt coastal landforms include sea cliffs, sea caves and other landscapes.
