About Guide Fortress
Guide Ancient City is located in Heyin Town, Guide County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, 1 mile north of the Yellow River. It is one of the best-preserved Ming Dynasty ancient cities in Qinghai Province. There is controversy over the time of its construction. One theory is that it was built by the soldiers and civilians of Hezhou Guards in the 7th to 13th years of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1374-1380). Another theory is that it can be traced back to the establishment of Qihe County in the second year of Shenjue by Emperor Xuan of the Han Dynasty (60 BC). The ancient city is square in plan, with a city wall circumference of 2,266 meters. It adopts layered loess ramming technology. There are three existing city walls and the north and south urns. The south urn gates are engraved with plaques "Tianqi Gate" and "Heyin Important Town" on the bricks.
